Diagnostic Assessment

Diagnosis

Disgnosis and medication managment are two core components of psychiatric and mental health care, especially when working with a professional like a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner or psychiatrist. Diagnosis is the process of identifying a mental health condition based on symptoms, behavioral patterns, personal and family history, and standard diagnostic criteria (DSM-5).

Medication Management

Medication management is an on-going process of prescribing, adjusting, and monitoring psychiatric medications to reduce or manage symptoms, minimize side effects, improve functioning, and quality of life.  This process includes the initial prescription, monitoring of responses, managing side effects, and making adjustments to the medication, the dosage and long-term planning.
